BOWLS ACHIEVEMENT SUPPORTS MACMILLAN NURSING
The Isle of Wedmore Bowls Club won three trophies from the Clevedon and District Bowls Association in the 2016 outdoor season. These were the over 60 triples league in only the second season for Wedmore without losing a match, the over 60s knock-out competition and the Charity Cup. Brendon Cottrell, club president, said “This is no mean achievement and I’m glad our teams did so well, particularly since we’re new to these competitions.”
The Club decided to donate all the prize money of £804 to MacMillan Nursing. Genevieve Drinkwater, Fundraising Manager for Somerset, said the money was really needed. “This helps to fill the gap between what we spend and income and the need is growing. We give grants to patients’ families as well as employing nurses,” she said. More people are surviving cancer and cancer will have doubled by 2030.
