Last night we held a welcome “party”, actually a gathering, to allow all our new members to meet up socially with many of the more established members. It was a gorgeous evening which allowed us to be outside and enjoy the first real event for nearly two years. As Covid restrictions ease we hope to hold more social events and combine them with the principle aim of the club which is to provide excellent bowling opportunities all year round with our fantastic indoor and outdoor facilities. Some pictures taken by our club photographer Steve Wilkinson give a flavour of the event.
Isle of Wedmore Bowls Club Green Opening was very different this year. It was the first to be held in two sessions on a Sunday and, due to the ongoing COVID restrictions, there was no bar or refreshments served, “bring your own” prevailed. Currently we are restricted to no more than 24 players on the Green at any one time. The weather was lovely and sunny with little or no wind and the Green looked good and played well, thanks to the work of the Green team over the winter.
Play started with all the bowlers standing round the green for a “spider” with the proceeds going to the Visually Handicapped Bowls. Bottles of whisky were presented to Peter Smith and Julie Collins for getting closest to the spider.
12 ends of bowls were played, in each session with a break halfway. It was lovely to see members again after the lockdowns and welcome some new faces who joined during last year.
The start af a new season and we aim to get it off in style. The Social group invite members to a fun night of good food and a bit of fun. As there is a limit to numbers get you name on the list in the club asap.
Now fully subscribed and reserve list in operation – Great support for a new event from our Social Group, who hope to do more events in the future. Being a member of the club is more than just bowling!!! pass it on
The Club held its annual Lunch and trophy presentations on Sunday 20th October. The venue was Batch Country House and as always, the staff and organisation were excellent. Members enjoyed a happy and friendly occasion in a glorious setting which added to the occasion. It was pleasing to see so many of our newer members present along with those who have always supported this important club event. Trophies were presented by Club President Dennis Stansfield. Thanks were given to Margaret Davies & Alan Birch for managing the competions through out the season & Dave Nicholls for organising the Lunch. The pictures reflect the event and were taken by club photographer Steve Willkinson.
Reminder that dominoes and a ploughman’s is being held on tomorrow ie Saturday at 7pm.
The list was taken down some time ago so if you have any doubt on whether you signed up please give me a call!!
We have had a couple of cancellations so we can take a few more names if you would like to join us for a fun evening!
Dont forget that the Club Annual Lunch and Outdoor Presentations will be on Sunday 20th October at Batch Country House. See notice board and menu selections in the Club. All members both indoor and Outdoor welcome for what is one of the Clubs longest standing events and a highlight of the year
