The men had a useful win away to Victoria Vikings in the Weston Triples League when the score was 105 shots to 88 overall and 2-4 on rinks. In a lopsided match, Dave Nicholls and his men won by 29 shots to four, winning 14 out of 18 ends, providing the foundation of a Wedmore victory and the buffer against losing on four rinks. Ron Barron’s chaps trailed for a long time but keeping touch with the opposition. Scoring a six on end 16 enabled them to win 15-12. Roger Hughes and his lads had their nose in front for the last third of the game only to see the other side score four on the last end, cruelly for Wedmore, they lost 16-17. Keith Pettit’s squad were in a close fight, went into the last end one shot down but were disappointed to lose 15-18. Keith Burt’s group were doing fine until they hit a dry patch towards the end and went down 15-18. Roy Thurkettle’s trio were one shot behind at mid-point but then saw a drought when their opponents put on 11 shots. The ensuing Victoria drought added eight shots to Wedmore but that was not enough and so lost 15-19.

The Ladies played away to Wessex Ladies in the Wessex League when they won one rink of three and narrowly lost 46 shots to 51. Trish Newell and her ladies were triumphant, winning 14 of 21 ends and 21 shots to 11. Marie Trow and friends had the galling experience of being level at end 20 and then losing by one shot. It was not a good day for Pam Beard’s cohort, losing 10-24.

In a friendly triples match at home the Ladies could only draw one rink although the overall score was close – 35 shots to 39. Marion Fisher’s team were in a tight game, scoring one on the last end to draw 11 shots all. Carole Pettit’s crew were in a similar situation but their single shot on the last end saw them lose 13-14. Maureen Hordle’s side were in the lead until they failed to score on the last four ends to lose 11-14.
In a mixed friendly at home to a touring side from Gas Social the result was three rinks all and a close 115-117 shots overall. Don Trow and Dennis Stansfield won well on their rinks at 24-12 and 23-14 respectively whilst Roger Hughes and co. chipped in with 18-16. Ann Hughes, Terry Simpson and Marie Trow’s rinks all struggled and lost by significant margins.
